This is Maxwell (AKA Max), a cat I used to have. He was a big, friendly, magnificent looking cat - weighing about 18 pounds. Although he's not with me anymore I loved him dearly. I always thought he would make a beautiful subject for a drawing. So I dug through my photos and decided upon this one I had taken of him one afternoon enjoying his perch on the porch I had screened-in for him. He would spend hours there - day dreaming.

Still working on Max.

Max is completed but I may return later to fine-tune him.

The window sill is completed and I've begun work on the wall.

More work on the wooden wall, and moving away from Max's shadow now.

There are times when using a photo as a reference you may want to draw everything exactly the way it is in the photo however that isn't always a good idea. In the original reference photo you couldn't see Max's hind foot. This was a little bothersome for me while doing the drawing. Even though I knew his foot was tucked underneath him I thought the drawing looked strange so I decided to draw his foot in. I'm pleased with the outcome - I think it makes a better drawing.

More work on the same area, and the wall is completed now.
